When it comes to the view spots in Aso, you may think of Daikambo, Sensuikyo gorge or Mt. Tawara observatory but Mt. Tangoyama (田子山) is definately a great spot where you will see the beautiful scenery of Aso with much less people.

Mt. Tagoyama has become viral after people started to post photos of “Sorafune no sanbashi (そらふねの桟橋)” which is a wooden bridge overhanging the hillside. Going further, you will find tables that face Mt. Aso and it is a nice place to have lunch (you can buy your lunch and dessert at Michi no Eki Aso in advance!).

This time, we took a bus from JR Aso station and took a local bus (No.5) and took off at Dabaru (駄原) . It takes about 40-50 minutes to the top. The paths are narrow at some points and can be slippery after rain so I reccomend you to wear comfortable wears and shoes.

After climbing down the mountain, you can visit Uchinomaki onsen area and visit some hotsprings or drop by at local cafes and restaurants and enjoy the local more.

Enjoy fall in Aso!
